New York, NY: Leapin’ Lizards! Tony nominee and Broadway’s original Annie, Andrea McArdle, will be NEWSical The Musical’s next celebrity guest star. The ever-evolving musical of all the news that’s fit to spoof welcomed celebrity gossip guru Perez Hilton last month as the show’s inaugural guest star. Ms McArdle joins the cast from November 14th through December 2nd.
"I feel like this is a dream and need to be pinched,” said producer Tom D’Angora “Andrea McArdle is a treasure in the Broadway community and I’m awestruck by her voice and enormous talent. We are very lucky over at NEWSical!"
NEWSical the Musical is the forever changing, completely un-sanitized musical mockery of all the news that’s fit to spoof. From Bloomberg’s sign language interpreter to Honey Boo Boo Child to the 2012 Presidential Election, NEWSical the Musical sets all of today’s biggest pop culture headlines to song. More celebrities, personalities, and comedians will be announced as the show’s guest star in the coming weeks.
The Associated Press calls it “The Daily Show set to music!” and the show was named Best New Musical of 2011 by the Off Broadway Alliance. Infectious melodies, razor-sharp lyrics, biting satire and more unpredictability than a Courtney Love tweet make NEWSical the Musical a laugh-filled, high octane musical revue of all the most talked-about headlines of the day.
The show features Christine Pedi (Sirius XM Host, Little Me, Talk Radio), Michael West (When Pigs Fly, Forbidden Broadway,), Tommy Walker (Evil Dead The Musical), Susan Mosher (Hairspray), Emily McNamara (NYC Nightlife star) and Ryan Knowles (host of Nickelodeon’s ME:TV).
Rick Crom is the creator and writer of NEWSical the Musical. He has appeared on Broadway in Urinetown, Footloose and The Goodbye Girl. On television, he appeared on FX’s critically acclaimed series “Louie” starring comedian Louis C.K.
NEWSical the Musical is directed by Mark Waldrop (When Pigs Fly, My Deah, Inventing Avi, Papermill Playhouse’s Gypsy) and produced by Tom D’Angora (Naked Boys Singing!, ICONS, Broadway Diva Christmas, Divas I’ve Done). Rounding out the creative team are Ed Goldschneider (music director), Jason Courson (set designer), and Ryan Obermeier (stage manager).
Andre McArdle became the youngest actress ever to be nominated for a Tony Award for lead actress in a musical for her Broadway debut in the title role of Annie in 1977. On Broadway she has starred in Starlight Express, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast, State Fair, and alongside Carol Channing and Leslie Uggams in the tour of Jerry’s Girls. She starred as Judy Garland in the NBC made-for-tv movie Rainbow and appeared on the Johnny Carson Show, the Mike Douglas Show, and has performed across the world as some of the musical theatres most iconic divas from Madame Rose to Evita.
Andrea McARdle will appear in NEWSical the Musical from November 14th through December 2nd.
